The SEO Strategy You Need to Know in 2021

13 Sep 2021

The process of sorting your website content according to the topic in an attempt to appear in search results is known as an SEO strategy. In general, this process is meant to increase the opportunity to obtain organic traffic from search engines. Having an SEO strategy means that you don’t just create content you think people are interested in; you create content that people are searching for. An SEO strategy is a crucial element of content marketing, as it ensures that your content will be seen. And it is your task to organize this content so that search engines can easier index your site, identify your niche, and rank your site pages.

Now that you know what an SEO strategy is, we can look closer at elements that will make it successful.

1. Create a list of themes

Every marketer knows that keywords lie at the heart of SEO, although they are not the first step in obtaining organic traffic. The first step is to compile a list of themes your content addresses.

You can start by creating a list of 10 terms that describe your product or service. You can also use an SEO tool, e.g., Ahrefs, Google’s Keywords Tool, SEMRush, etc.; these tools will help you define the search volume of these words and identify the variations of these terms so that your list is more diverse. This way, you associate these themes with common short-tail keywords. Use search volume and competition as your measurement to come up with 8-12 short-tail keywords that correspond to your industry and are commonly searched for by your target audience. Every short-tail keyword is a pillar that supports a larger cluster of long-tail keywords.

2. Create a list of long-tail keywords according to these themes

At this stage, you will start optimizing your pages for keywords. For every pillar you have defined, implement your keyword tool to come up with 7-10 long-tail keywords that extend the initial theme keyword. This way, you can attract more people interested in your products or services. Incorporate long-tail keywords for your web pages or blog posts that reflect the themes within the pillars you’ve chosen. These long-tail keywords define a cluster around a pillar theme. Google and other search engines use algorithms that build upon the relationship between clusters to provide users access to the data they are looking for.

3. Create a blog

Blogging is a great way to rank for keywords and interact with your audience. Moreover, every article is an additional possibility to rank on search engines. If your brand doesn’t have a blog, you should definitely consider setting up one. Keep in mind the following while creating your blog:

  • Every page shouldn’t contain the same long-tail keyword more than three times.
  • Link to the pillar page you have for your themes. These can be tags or anchor text.

4. Follow up with your content’s performance

SEO services are very time-consuming and requires a lot of effort. Therefore it is important to know if your strategy is successful. Track your metrics to measure and understand the efficiency of your overall process, so you can identify areas for improvement. Use web analytics tools or Excell to monitor the results.
